There is something about European Architecture.  All those curved lines are much prettier and softer than severe right angles.  We have curved archways here in the US, but certainly not of the same grandeur that Europe does.  Come to think of it, the word arch appears in architecture.  I wonder if there is a connection?

Oggi, I decided to share some of my favorite photos of arches in ItalyDomani, I 'll give you a peek at some of my French favorites.

Which one is your favorite?

I like the 3rd one/top row.... something about the stone path that leads through the arch. It's nostalgic.

i like the one with the person sitting under the 2 arches....but i see some of my city of Florence, so I'm partial to those as well :)

I'm wih Joe I love no 3, I love these little laneways!! All the pictures are great!!:)

Love them all and only 37 days before I see them in person!!!

Joe~ Ah, that was taken in Montefioralle. People actually live there in that little walled area.

Erin~ The person sitting there is my man ;) It is one of my favs too!! I love the peeling layers.

I only hope that I can take such wonderful pics as you!!!

Can't wait to see the french ones !!!! Wonderful photos

Aren't they just the best? Even after five years of seeing them everyday, I haven't gotten enough :)

The prefix "arch" (like in the word "architecture") is derived from a Greek word meaning "first" or "chief". On the other hand, the noun "arch", (the beautiful structure that we can see in each picture)is derived from a Latin word "arcus", which means "bow", so I guess there's no connection between the former and the latter.
